Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) conducted a training session on “Planning & Design in Conventional Tunnelling” on October 17th & 18th 2016 in Thimphu, Bhutan, in collaboration with the ITACET Foundation and ITA-AITES.
Five international speakers from the ITACET Foundation lectured over the two days to 73 participants from the Ministry of Works & Human Settlement, the Construction Development Corporation, Bhutan Electricity Authority, Punatsangchhu Hydroelectric Project - I & Punatsangchhu Hydroelectric Project - II, Mangdechhu Hydro Power Project (MHPA), Tangsibji Hydro Energy Limited (Nikachhu Hydropower Project), Kholongchhu Hydro Energy Limited, and four plants and two departments of DGPC.
Her Excellency Lyonpo Dorji Choden, Hon’ble Minister of Works & Human Settlement (MoWHS), graced the opening ceremony of the training session with her presence on October 17th 2016, while His Excellency Lyonpo Jigme Zangpo, Hon’ble Speaker of the National Assembly of Bhutan closed the training session and awarded the participants with certificates on October 18th, 2016.
His Excellency Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan delivered a speech in which he shared his experiences and emphasized the importance of underground works, whilst encouraging all the participants.
The ITACET Foundation sponsored the lecturers and bore other related international costs, with DGPC bearing only their local expenses. Ugen Earth Movers, Hindustan Construction Company, Gammon India Pvt. Ltd, Schwing Stetter Pvt. Ltd. and ADO Additives MFG Pvt. Ltd also supported the training session.
