A two-day training session on ‘Risk management and sustainable underground solutions’ was held on 12th & 13th May 2023 in Athens. This course was organized within the scope of the annual World Tunnel Congress 2023, in collaboration with the Greek tunnelling society and the ITA-CET Committee.
The training session provided knowledge on the use of underground space as a means to promote sustainability and tools for managing and quantifying risks. The training session was opened by ITA President Arnold Dix and consisted of four sessions: Session 1: Risk management principles, Session 2: Tendering & Implementation during construction, Session 3: Sustainability issues, Session 4: Implementation during design, construction, and operation. The event ended with a panel discussion on the future of tunnelling, led by underground construction experts from Greece.
The lectures were delivered by internationally recognized university professors and experts within the tunnelling industry, who shared their knowledge, invaluable experience and insights. The event was a great success and attracted more than 100 participants. The attendees were made up of senior level engineers and managers, as well as young engineers and university students who came to gain a better understanding of the topic.
