Biography: 

John Carmody is the Director of the Center for Sustainable Building Research at the University of Minnesota and previously served as Associate Director of the Underground Space Center at the University of Minnesota. He is the author of several books on building design and construction and was co-author of the book Underground Space Design: A Guide to Subsurface Utilization and Design for People in Underground Spaces. In 2008, the Center for Sustainable Building Research received funding to lead the State of Minnesota in its transformation to zero net energy and carbon buildings by the year 2030. His work also includes research on window and façade design, life cycle assessment of materials, affordable housing, post occupancy evaluations, and the development of decision-making tools for designers. He holds an M.S. Degree in Architecture from the University of Minnesota and is a Fellow at the Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota.
